Guangzhou Institute of Science and Technology (GZIST) is a university approved by China’s Ministry of Education (MOE). Founded in 2000, GZIST became an independent college to carry out undergraduate education in 2006, and was approved by the Ministry of Education to be transferred and renamed as Guangzhou Institute of Science and Technology in 2020. The university is located in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the core area of the Pearl River Delta. It has three campuses, including Guangzhou Campus, Huizhou Campus and Experimental School of GZIST (An international high-end private boarding school covering kindergarten to high school) in Zengcheng District, Guangzhou.

With its advantages and strengths in new engineering education, GZIST emphasizes the characteristics of new business discipline and develops new liberal arts, and promotes the development of a multi-disciplinary university, integrating engineering, business management, economics, literature, arts, education and other disciplines. Based in the capital city of Guangdong Province, oriented towards South China and catering to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, GZIST aspires to cultivate technical interdisciplinary and practice-oriented talents with a solid foundation in the key knowledge, a high degree of information literacy, strong applicable and innovative abilities, an international vision and the consciousness of innovation and entrepreneurship.

GZIST boasts an area of about 1500 mu (999,000 square meters), with a campus building area of about 800,000 square meters. GZISTs 16 schools include School of Intelligent Manufacture and Electronic Engineering, School of Computer Science & Engineering, School of Architectural Engineering, School of Information and Optoelectronic Engineering, School of New Energy Automotive Engineering, School of Aviation, School of Business Administration, School of Economics and Management, School of Foreign Languages, School of International Education, School of Marxism, School of General Education, School of Continuing Education, School of Art & Design, School of Music & Dance and School of Humanities & Education and 3 industrial colleges. Among the 48 undergraduate programs, 25 are related to engineering. GZIST has more than 30,000 full-time students and more than 1500 faculty, including more than 600 professors, associate professors and doctors.

GZIST adheres to university-enterprise cooperation, industry-education integration, industry-university-research integration, strengthens the concept of OBE education, and deepens the reform of talent cultivation mode. The university has 1 national first-class major, 2 key disciplines in Guangdong Province, 3 first-class majors in Guangdong Province, 4 featured majors in Guangdong Province, more than 200 projects of quality engineering in Guangdong Province, scientific research projects of Guangdong Province, and the Ministry of Education's industry-education collaborative education projects, 140 professional laboratories, more than 200 practice teaching bases, more than 400 cooperative enterprises, and 16 long-term enterprises on campus. The total value of teaching and research equipment is nearly 200 million yuan, with 2.4 million paper books, 1.2 million electronic journals, and 9 digital resource databases, providing a favorable environment for teachers and students in teaching, scientific research, management and life.

The university adheres to the industry-university-research integration, strengthens organized scientific research, and promotes the transformation and application of scientific and technological achievements. The university has a number of provincial scientific research platforms, including the Robot Integration and Application Engineering Technology Research Center of Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, the Doctoral Research Center of Guangdong Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security, and the Guangdong-Hong Kong Collaboration BIM Engineering Technology Center, as well as more than 70 academic teams. At present, the university has undertaken more than 150 projects under the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Social Science Fund of China, and the Social Science Foundation of the Ministry of Education, and provincial scientific research projects and more than 500 horizontal projects. Over the past three years, the university has published more than 1800 papers, 164 monographs, 521 authorized patents, 14 technological innovations, and the achievement transformation has generated economic benefits of more than 50 million yuan. In the 25th China International Hi-Tech Achievements Fair held in 2023, GZIST's exhibition of 29 high-tech equipment products attracted attention, and was widely reported by the CCTV 1 News and other national mainstream media.

Appraised by the Department of Education of Guangdong Province and the Ministry of Education for the status of an independent private-owned non-profit undergraduate college since 2019, GZIST has been offered numerous honors such as “Top Ten Independent Undergraduate Colleges of Guangdong Province” and “Advanced Institution for Employment”. Moreover, it has established cooperative relations with 28 colleges and universities from the United States, Britain, Japan, Canada, Australia, Holland, Singapore and Russia and will partner with more institutions abroad for greater internationalization of higher education.
