The School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Guangdong Robot Integration and Application Technology Engineering Research Center, and Guangzhou Yuanda Intelligent Co., LTD were merged into the School of Intelligent Manufacturing and Electrical Engineering(SIMEE) in November 2021, better meeting the increasing talent demands of the advanced manufacturing industries in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
SIMEE has seven departments:Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Industrial Design, Automation, Electronic Information, Electronic Engineering as well as the Experimental and Training Centers. The four industrial centers include Guangdong Robot Integration and Application Technology Engineering Research Center, Guangzhou Yuanda Intelligent Co., Ltd., a provincial-level Institute of Intelligent Manufacturing, and the Institute of ZTE Information Engineering. SIMEE offers 11 majors: Mechanical Design and Manufacturing and Automation, Electrical Engineering and Automation, Robotics Engineering, Electrical Information Engineering, and Internet of Things Engineering. Among them, Electrical Engineering and Automation is a provincial-level demo major for the cultivation of applied talents, and Mechanical Design and Manufacturing and Automation and Electrical Information Engineering are not only provincial-level trial major for comprehensive reform but also university-level first-rate majors. Electrical Engineering is a provincial key subject and Mechanical Engineering is a university-level strong discipline. Moreover, SIMEE has two provincial teaching experiment centers, 69 intelligent manufacturing electrical and electronic laboratories, teaching and scientific research equipment worth more than 40 million yuan, and two provincial student practice bases as well as 33 off-campus practice bases.
The provincial-level Robot Integration and Application Technology Engineering Research Center is strong in scientific and technology research, undertaking vertical and horizontal scientific research projects and practical teaching missions. The robot teaching equipment produced by Guangzhou Yuanda Intelligent Co., Ltd. has been sold to vocational and technical colleges in more than ten provinces and cities in China, securing an annual output of more than 50 million yuan.
SIMEE has a qualified teaching team. There are 96 faculty and staff, including 18 professors, 23 associate professors and 13 teachers with doctoral degrees. Most teachers are double-qualified and the Mechanical Engineering Teaching Team is a provincial demo teaching team, whose members have undertaken 41 vertical and horizontal scientific research projects, published 61 academic papers, and filed 162 applications successfully.
Upholding the university motto, SIMEE has been dedicated to the development of students’ intellectual capabilities and abilities of practice by following the school-enterprise-research institute-engineering center collaborative mode that integrates multi-disciplines, professional courses and ideological and political education, as well as the core measures centering on students’ engineering, practical and innovative competences.
Over the past three years, SIMEE students have won more than 300 national and provincial awards in various contests. At the same time, as our graduates are equipped with strong professional abilities and high comprehensive quality, their overall employment rate and salaries are high. Over the years, the average employment rate is over 96% and our graduates are well sought after in the job market especially by enterprises in the Greater Bay Area.
