The School of Music and Dance (SMD), formerly known as School of Art established in 2004, is one of the schools with the most youthful vitality and characteristics.
SMD has Music Performance major (vocal music, dance, instrumental music), 30 teachers, including one American visiting professor, two professors and seven associate professors. More than 84% teachers have Master’s degrees and 4 are doctoral candidates. They studied in Japan, Ukraine, Denmark, France, the United States, the United Kingdom and some other countries. Music Performance is the University Distinctive Specialty and folk dance is the University First-Class course .
SMD is equipped with electric piano classroom, chorus, instrumental music, dance rehearsal hall, small theater, piano room and other teaching facilities. In 2020, the Hakka Culture and Art Research Center was established, integrating Hakka traditional culture into teaching, scientific research and talent cultivation. For research, the School received two First Prize Outstanding Teaching Awards.. Famous Teacher Studios and Golden Bell Performing Arts Studios carry out rich practical teaching activities. The “Weekly Golden Bell” concert, in which students conduct art practice activities, has been held hundreds of times thus becoming an SMD brand. The School has held concerts in Dongguan Yulan Grand Theatre, Guangdong Nanfang Vocational College and other places. Since 2020, it has been awarded the title “Elegant Art into Campus” Unit by Guangdong Province Department of Education.
In recent years, SMD has won more than 100 awards in international, provincial and municipal professional competitions. In 2021, it won Excellence Award in the 11th World Choir Games. In 2018, it won third prize in the Professional Dance Group of the Fifth National College Students Art Exhibition, and first prize in the professional group of the Fourth Guangdong College Students Vocal Music Competition. In 2019, it won first prize in the Professional Group of Guangdong Hundred Songs In Praise of China Vocal Music Competition and in 2021, first prize of Guangdong Dance Competition. The employment rate of graduates has been above 97% for many years, ranking front of the University.
