(LI Jiajia GAO Min) On the afternoon of June 15, Guangzhou Institute of Science and Technology (GZIST) held the 2024 Commencement in No. 1 Auditorium of Baiyun Campus. Present at the Commencement were President Hu Shejin, CPC Committee Secretary Huang Shengcheng, Executive Vice President Huang Nansong, Vice Presidents Chen Hanjun, Xiaohai, Zhang Shimei, Zhang Rixin and Zhang Zhihong, as well as department heads, school deans and CPC general branch secretaries. The event, televised with a total online audience of more than ten thousand, was presided over by CPC Committee Vice Secretary and Vice President Zhang Zhihong.
After the solemn national anthem, Vice President Zhang Shimei read out the University Directive for Graduation and Degree Conferment. Vice President Xiao Hai read out the University Directive for Awarding Excellent Graduates, Competition Winners and Master’s Students. CPC Committee Secretary Huang Shengcheng gave out prizes for outstanding students.
President Hu Shejun, in his address, encouraged all our students to serve our country with their specialized knowledge and skills and perform well in their careers in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and the rest of our country in the spirit of our university motto “Learn with Diligence, Act with Integrity” for the prosperity of our nation, social progress, and personal pursuit and growth.
Faculty and graduate representatives Jiang Yuwen and Huang Yuehui shared their experiences of working and studying at GZIST. The school deans performed tassel-turning for the graduates.
The class of 2024 have experienced the fast and high-quality development of our university: the first cohort students of Guangzhou Institute of Science and Technology after the Ministry of Education approval of the university renaming, the Academic Degree Transfer (ADT) students’ dream of earning a bachelor degree having come true, and the university’s numerous awards and honors received, the addition of the School of Humanities and Education, the School of New Energy Automotive Engineering, the School of Aviation, the increase of bachelor programs to 48, one of the first group of joint Masters programs approved among Guangdong Province private universities and colleges, the facelift of Baiyun Campus, and the opening of Huizhou Campus. All our graduates have taken credit for the achievements our university has made.
