On the occasion of the New Year's Day, we would like to extend, on behalf of Guangzhou Institute of Science and Technology, our best wishes for the New Year to our dedicated faculty and staff, our hard-working students and our alumni from all over the world, and people from all walks of life who support the development of our univesity!
2024 was a year full of outstanding achievements. We adhered to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for the New Era, fully implemented the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, the 2nd and 3rd Plenary Sessions of the 20th CPC Central Committee, and the National Education Conference, comprehensively carried out the education policy of the CPC, implemented the specific deployment of the CPC Guangdong Committee's strategy. We deepened the reform of the main responsibility system for talent cultivation, sped up the construction of a high-quality education and teaching system, comprehensively improved the quality of independent cultivation of applied talents, the level of scientific research, the ability of social services, and the core competitiveness of our institution, and promoted the assessment of the undergraduate teaching work and the construction of our joint Master's degree program, so as to cultivate socialist builders and successors with all-round development of morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetic and labor qualities.
2024 was a year of high quality led by CPC building high quality development. We achieved "three consecutive years’ title of excellence” in the annual inspection of private colleges and universities in Guangdong Province, achieved "three consecutive years’ good rating" in the assessment of the CPC Committee Secretaries of the Education Working Committee of Guangdong Province CPC Committee, achieved "three consecutive years’ Top One" in the provincial financial funding for private education special funds in Guangdong Province, and was assessed as "excellence" in the construction of a higher level of Safe Campus in Guangdong Province. We passed the inspection of our joint Master's degree program construction in Guangdong Province, became the first batch of members and Vice Chairman Unit of the National Private University Curriculum Ideological and Political Alliance. The quality of talent cultivation has been comprehensively improved, and the employment rate of our graduates ranked at the forefront of our province. Our university representatives made speeches at the CPC Building Work Conference of Guangdong Private Colleges and Universities. The three holistic education (whole community, whole process and omni-dimension) and applied talent training were reported by China Education Daily, the practical exploration of curriculum ideological and political education system was reported by Guangming Net, the People's Daily and other media for more than 700 times.
2024 was a year of deepening teaching reform and promoting education assessment. We implemented the OBE education concept, deepened the reform of the main responsibility system for talent cultivation, promoted the education assessment of undergraduate teaching work, and accelerated the construction of high-quality education and teaching system. We developed advanced equipment manufacturing, artificial intelligence and electronic information, new energy vehicles, low-altitude economy and other professional clusters, provided talent and intellectual support for the development of the local economy. Our undergraduate majors developed to 48 (25 engineering majors). We set up 12 projects for Guangdong Province undergraduate teaching quality and teaching reform construction project. The number of our colleges of industry increased to 10, innovative experimental classes to 10, teacher studios to 135, and practical teaching bases to 250. We won 127 provincial awards in our faculty teaching competitions, including 42 grand prizes and 12 first prizes.
2024 was a year of deepening our holistic education and establishing a comprehensive development system. We implemented the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education and promoting the comprehensive development of our students through holistic education programs. We created the "Three Holistic Education Week" brand of ideological education, built curriculum ideological education system, innovation and entrepreneurship education system, work system of promoting employment guidance for all, and all-round education and comprehensive development system. We created several aesthetic education brands including Guangdong Provincial Archives, aesthetic education bases and art enlightenment projects. We carried out extensive labor practice, established 8 vanguard workstations, 191 twinning programs, and set up 5 projects for the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League project, ranking first in the provincial private colleges and universities. We created several social practice brands for more than 10 years, including computer and radio voluntary maintenance and metro volunteer service. Our teachers and students participated in the green activities and social services of Guangdong Province. Students won 83 national awards and 1391 provincial and ministerial awards, including 1 gold medal, 4 silver medals and 5 bronze medals in "Challenge Cup" Guangdong Competitions, 1 bronze medal in China International Student Innovation Competition, 2 silver medals and 4 bronze medals in Guangdong Competitions. The innovation and entrepreneurship projects were shortlisted for the first time in the national competitions. We won the gold medal for the first time in the National University Track and Field Championships, ranked the 17th in the country and the 1st in Guangdong Province, and won the 1st place in the Guangdong University Track and Field Games for the first time.
2024 was a year of collaborative education for the integration of science, industry and education. We established strategic cooperation, joint declaration of R & D platforms, scientific research projects, scientific and technological awards with over 20 leading enterprises including Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC), BYD, Guangzhou Radio Group, PCI Technology Group, and focus on industrial upgrading to improve the quality of the key application of technology. GAC and BYD donated 12 vehicles valued at more than 3 million yuan for teaching and research, Hino Motor Company donated 2 high-power engines for heavy-duty trucks valued at 200,000 yuan, and GAC Group set up a special scholarship in our university. We constructed Baiyun Campus Science and Technology Innovation and Industry-Education Integration Base, an important regional base for science and technology innovation, product research and development, technology transfer and practical teaching.
2024 was a year of forging ahead with courage and promoting the transformation of applied research results to serve the Guangdong ecological construction. Scientific research made new breakthroughs. We had 3 Humanities and Social Sciences Research Planning Fund projects approved by the Ministry of Education, ranked 114th among national universities and 1st among private universities. We had 59 planning projects approved by the National Ethnic Affairs Commission and the Provincial Federation of Social Sciences. We served the ecological construction of Guangdong Province to promote Chinese-style modernization in Guangdong practice. We undertook more than 500 social services of 40.44 million yuan, with 5 single funding projects for more than 2 million yuan. We developed and produced oxygen machines, patient moval beds, and sold 45 self-developed products to 23 countries and regions on site at the 135th Canton Fair. We helped Longchuan County to achieve high-quality development, and established the “government-university-enterprise” alliance in collaboration with the organization department of Boluo County CPC Committee. We Promoted the construction of our joint Master's degree program, applied for the project of improving scientific research ability of key disciplines in Guangdong Province through the Department of Education mid-term inspection, obtained up to 10 support projects, and gained the first-class evaluation of the provincial education development special funds (private education development direction).
2024 was a year of optimizing the new development pattern of one university in three campuses, and promoting high-quality development to scale new heights. We released the Implementation Plan for Higher Quality Education (2025-2028), promoted the construction of our Master's degree program, and explored new ways for the high-quality development of private universities. We promoted the strategy of strengthening the university with talents, planned systematically for education, science and technology and talents, and flexibly introduced national talents such as Changjiang Scholars and Distinguished Young Scholars. We organized more than 20 academic conferences, such as the 2024 Lingnan Academic Forum on "Ecological Construction and Development of New Productivity in Guangdong", the Theory and Practice Symposium on the High-Quality Construction of Schools of Marxism in Guangdong Private Universities, the Ninth South Guangdong Forum on Chinese Grammar, the Forum on Cooperation and Exchange between British High-Level Universities in Guangdong Province, and the Seminar on Strategies for the Development of Master's Degree Programs in Electronic Information Construction. Academicians and experts made speeches, peer scholars exchanged ideas, sharing the wisdom of the forum results.
2024 was a year of promoting international exchanges and cooperation and cultivating talents with international vision. We established 2+2, 3+1, 3+1+1 and other undergraduate and Master's joint training modes with 20 universities and institutions from 12 countries and regions, and sent 217 faculty and students to participate in academic training abroad. We built a multi-language training center, offering English, Russian, German, Spanish and Japanese, deepened exchanges and cooperation with Japanese and Korean universities and institutions in ASEAN countries. We cooperated with Columbus State University to promote the AASCU-CCIEE Sino-American Cooperation on Higher Education and Professional Development, deepened cooperation with Kazan Federal University, Baltic State Technical University and The Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, promoting cooperation and exchanges with Russian universities.
2024 was a year when we adhered to the rule of law and standardized the operation of the university and constantly made new progress and new breakthroughs. All these achievements were the results of the correct leadership and support of the Provincial Education Working Committee, the Provincial Department of Education and the local government of each campus, the results of the correct leadership of the Board of Directors and the CPC Committee Administration, and the results of the common efforts of all our teachers and students. We would like to pay high respect and give our heartfelt thanks to all the teachers and students who worked hard for our university.
General Secretary Xi Jinping said in his New Year Message, "Although the dream is far away, it can be reached by pursuing it; although the wish is hard, it can be fulfilled by adhering to it. On the new journey of Chinese-style modernization, everyone is a protagonist, every contribution is precious, and every ray of light shines."
2025 is an important year for the high quality development of the university's education, assessment and promotion of the Master's degree granting status.
Looking ahead to 2025, we will adhere to the integration of CPC building in universities with the development of higher education and lead the high-quality development of higher education with high-quality CPC building, and achieve new goal of improving the quality of education. Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for the New Era, we will deeply study and implement the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress and the fundamental task of cultivating people with morality, prepare the Implementation Plan for the Construction of High-quality Education for Guangzhou Institute of Science and Technology (2025-2028), take CPC building as the leading role, push forward the in-depth integration between the CPC building and the development of our cause, and center on the assessment of undergraduate teaching and the construction of Master's degree granting status. Focusing on the tasks of CPC building, teaching, scientific research, teamwork, and industry-university integration, we will further promote the high-quality development of our university.
Looking ahead to 2025, we will deepen our reform and promote the assessment of undergraduate teaching. We will adhere to the development strategy of the Greater Bay Area and the ten strategic pillar industries and ten strategic emerging industries in Guangdong, and build matching disciplines and professional groups. We will promote the construction of colleges of industry, innovation experimental classes, basic experimental classes and industry-university integration studios, optimize the university's applied talent training system, and implement "artificial intelligence+innovative talent training". We will strive to achieve a series of results in national first-class courses, national planning textbooks, teaching achievement awards and teachers' teaching competitions. We will benchmark the national index system for education assessment of undergraduate teaching, improve the conditions of our operations, teaching quality construction, and reform of talent cultivation mode, so as to make the conditions of our operations and teaching management meet the standards, and the quality of teaching guaranteed, and ensure that our university will pass the Ministry of Education assessment of our undergraduate teaching in 2026.
Looking ahead to 2025, we will upgrade our scientific research capacity and promote the construction of our Master's degree granting status. We will carry out organized scientific research, highlight the characteristics of applied scientific research, continuously improve the output of scientific research results, and obtain a number of high-level scientific research platforms, scientific research projects, R&D projects, and achievement awards. We will construct a base for scientific and technological innovation and integration of industry and education in Baiyun District, and strive for new breakthroughs in the transformation of achievements in the fields of industrial robots, oxygen generators, artificial intelligence, etc., and a significant increase in the proceeds from the transformation of scientific research achievements. We will coordinate resources and multi-departmental collaboration to promote the construction of new Master's degree granting status and programs. The overall strength of our university will meet the basic conditions for the application of new Master's degree granting institutions, and 2-3 degree programs will meet the basic conditions for the application of new Master's degree authorization.
Looking ahead to 2025, we will adhere to the principle of building the morality, and promote the project of cultivating teachers’ morality and students’ psychology. We will implement the "Guangdong Province Grass-roots CPC Organization Construction Project Implementation Plan (2024-2026)", take the innovation of CPC building as the starting point, implement the CPC building benchmarking and competing for leading projects, and provide organizational guarantee for our university to achieve new goal of high-quality education. We will implement the fundamental task of establishing moral education, deepening the three holistic and all-round education, perfecting the "ten major" education system, promoting the construction of "ideological and political class" and "curriculum ideology and politics", and comprehensively promote the education of our students and the moral cultivation of our teachers for the development of high-quality talents.
Looking ahead to 2025, we will adhere to student-oriented policy, serve the growth and success of our students, and gather strength to promote the our development, forming a good academic ecology and campus community of a shared future. We will establish a sound mechanism for our teachers and students to make common progress and development, firmly footed in Guangdong, serving the Greater Bay Area, and devoting ourselves to cultivating high-quality and applied talents with the unity of knowledge and action, high information literacy, strong practical ability and innovative spirit, and an international vision, so as to lay a common ideological foundation and value orientation for the university's high-quality development, and to make new efforts for the cause of education and for the economic and social development of Guangdong.
For the assessment, only dedication can lead to success. For the application of Master’s degree granting status, we need to take the initiative to make it happen. In our new journey, we look forward to the brighter future.
