The School of Art and Design volunteers offered painting and calligraphy classes to GZIST staff children. The “Mini-Train Journey” was a wonderful opportunity for the kids to appreciate train pictures of all kinds for closer observation of their features and structures as well as functions. The kids were then led to cut out train carriages with scissors for pasting and ornamenting the trains, to the best of their imagination and understanding.

The painting class featured “Mushroom”, whose colors varied, attracting the kids to observe and paint in variation of high and low, big and small changes and positions. Plant elements were added to the background and bright colors made their works glow splendidly.

The calligraphy class taught the kids to master the writing strokes and order of the commonly used Chinese characters, such as “Gou, Ju, Yun, Si” . Incorrect holding of the Chinese writing brush was corrected.

The Chinese painting class focused on “Gardenia”, a symbol of determination in Chinese culture. The kids were practising the technique of painting gardenia by first learning to hold firm their brushes. Lines were drawn in pencil, contours were sketched and then colored.
