I. Programs
All undergraduate programs (with HSK requirements for Chinese language proficiency) - degree education;
Chinese language training classes (beginner, primary, intermediate, advanced), exchange students - non-degree education.
II. Application Time
Before June 30th each year.
III. Application Requirements
1. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens aged between 18 and 25, physically and mentally healthy, holding a valid foreign passport.
a) According to relevant regulations, overseas Chinese (including those who have acquired foreign nationality from former Chinese citizens and their foreign-national children, and the foreign-national children of Chinese citizens) must undergo nationality status pre-examination during GZIST's admission stage and nationality determination by the Chinese public security exit-entry administration after enrollment. Those who fail the nationality status pre-examination or nationality determination will be deemed to have automatically waived their application qualifications and any subsequent possible admission qualifications or student status.
b) According to Article 5 of the Nationality Law of the People's Republic of China, those whose parents are both or one of whom is a Chinese citizen and settled abroad, and who acquire foreign nationality at birth, do not have Chinese nationality. Since 2021, those applying to study at our university as international students at the undergraduate level must, in addition to meeting other school application qualifications, hold a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for more than 4 years (inclusive), and have a record of actual residence abroad for more than 2 years within the last 4 years (as of April 30th of the year of admission). Residents of mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan who have immigrated and acquired foreign nationality and apply to study at our university as international students at the undergraduate level should also meet this requirement.
IV. Application Document
1. Guangzhou Institute of Science and Technology Application Form for International Student (downloadable).
2. Scanned copy of the passport's first page (ordinary passport, valid after January 1st, 2026).
3. High school graduation certificate or pre-graduation proof, stamped with school seal.
a) The high school graduation certificate must be authenticated by the Ministry of Education or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country of origin.
b) Students applying with pre-graduation proof must obtain their graduation certificate before September 2025 and complete the aforementioned academic authentication.
c) Graduation certificates obtained within mainland China (excluding Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) do not require authentication.
d) At the time of registration, the original graduation certificate and authentication materials must be provided for verification.
4. Official high school transcripts, stamped with school seal.
a) Current high school graduates submit transcripts from previous years of high school.
b) Graduated high school students submit complete high school transcripts.
c) Standardized test scores from the country of student origin’s high school exams or international standardized tests, such as UEC/A Level/AP/IB/SAT/ACT, etc.
5. English proficiency certificate.
Applicants whose high school education was conducted in English may provide a proof of language instruction issued by the high school as a substitute. Applicants from countries where English is the official language are exempt from submitting an English language proficiency certificate.
6. Chinese proficiency certificate. Choose one of the following:
a) HSK score (HSK level 3 or above, for disciplines taught in Chinese, the Chinese proficiency requirement should be at least HSK level 4) (HSK validity period is two years, the certificate must be valid at the time of application);
b) Proof of being a native speaker of Chinese.
7. Personal statement. Not less than 500 words, including self-introduction, educational experience, goals, and plans for studying in China. Applicants for English-taught programs should write in English.
8. "Foreigner Physical Examination Form" and related original report scans, filled out in Chinese or English, and stamped with the hospital's seal. The physical examination is valid for 6 months.
9. "Guangzhou Institute of Science and Technology Financial Guarantee Letter for International Students" and its guarantee material scans, filled out in Chinese or English, providing sufficient financial guarantees for reasonable expenses such as study, living, and international travel during the period of study in China, as well as the scanned copies of the passport or identity proof of the guarantor (limited to the applicant himself or relatives). Applicants for scholarships also need to submit a financial guarantee letter.
10. Certificate of no criminal record. Applicants must submit a valid certificate of no criminal record issued by the local public security organ within the last 6 months before the application date.
11. Recent 2-inch electronic photo of the applicant.
V. Application Procedure
1. Application Process
a) Submit Application
Send the application materials as a package to the email: io@gzist.edu.cn
b) Qualification Review and Admission Test
Within two weeks after submitting the application, GZIST will complete the qualification review and inform about the admission interview arrangement. Only those with qualified interview results will have admission qualifications. The interview score does not count towards scholarship evaluation. If there is no reply, please contact by email ( io@gzist.edu.cn) proactively.
c) Pre-admission Notice and Payment of Registration Fee
After the admission is completed, GZIST will issue a pre-admission notice. After receiving the pre-admission notice, please pay the registration fee (non-refundable) and the bed reservation fee in time, and send the bank transfer receipt scan to GZIST email (io@gzist.edu.cn, please indicate your name, contact information, and other basic information in the email).
d) Material Submission and Payment
GZIST will send the electronic version of the "Admission Notice" and "Foreign Student Confirmation Form" to the applicant's email. Please remit the tuition fees to GZIST's bank account within the specified time and send the bank transfer receipt scan to GZIST email (io@gzist.edu.cn, please indicate your name, contact information, and other basic information in the email).
e) Apply for Visa to Enter China
International students must apply for a visa to enter China at the consular department of the Chinese embassy or consulate in their home country (please email to inform the full name of the consulate handling the visa). To apply for a visa, provide: valid passport, admission notice, foreign student confirmation form, physical examination form, etc.
f) Report and Registration
Please bring living expenses, passport, "Admission Notice," "Foreign Student Confirmation Form," physical examination form (overseas physical examination students must re-examine in Guangzhou), and 10 recent 2-inch photos, and register at GZIST according to the registration date specified in the "Admission Notice." To avoid trouble with expired visas, please do not enter China too early and report to GZIST as soon as possible after arriving in China.
2. Visa and Insurance
a) Visa
Admitted students must apply for a study visa (X1 visa) to the Chinese embassy with the admission notice and the application form for a Chinese study visa (JW202). Those studying for more than 6 months must apply for an X1 visa and convert the X1 visa to a residence permit for study within 30 days after arriving in China.
b) Insurance
According to the regulations of the Chinese Ministry of Education, international students coming to China must purchase medical insurance within China, otherwise, GZIST will not handle the registration procedures. Please pay the insurance premium before entering China. The annual insurance fee is about 800-1200 RMB.
